About Payless Power

Based in Dallas, Payless Power is an electricity provider that serves customers across the Lone Star State. The company was started by three brothers in 2005, who began Payless Power to provide affordable electricity plans for all Texans. As part of that goal, Payless Power specializes in prepaid and no-deposit electricity plans, making electricity more accessible for Texans with below-average credit.

Payless Power serves residential energy customers in more than 400 deregulated cities and towns across Texas. Some of the company’s service areas include:

What’s the best Payless Power plan?

As a prepaid electricity provider, Payless Power plans are available in two fixed-rate options:

  • SmarTricity Easy Choice. This is Payless Power’s month-to-month electricity plan. There’s no credit check or deposit required, but there is a $49 minimum payment to begin your service.
  • SmarTricity Premier 12. This plan comes with a 12-month contract, with a slightly lower rate than the month-to-month plan. Again, you won’t need to pass a credit check or pay a deposit, but you’ll have to add at least $75 to your Payless Power account to begin service.

Remember that plan availability depends on where you live. As you explore Payless Power electric rates, look to your typical energy usage to determine the right plan for you. If you need help understanding your options, Atlas is here to simplify the process with customized recommendations. You can also use Atlas to find Payless Power reviews before committing to a plan.

Is Payless Power a good company?

At Atlas, we understand that reviews and ratings are an important part of choosing the right provider. We rate all the providers we work with to help you understand how they compare. Here’s the score for Payless Power:

Payless Power rating: 3.7 stars

Payless Power scored well in the customer service and business history categories. This includes the company’s satisfaction guarantee, years of experience, and Better Business Bureau accreditation. In the category of online accessibility, Payless delivers on bill pay and usage alerts but lacks online chat customer support.

Which provider has the cheapest Texas electricity rates?

There isn’t exactly a simple answer to this question. Texas electricity plans can be structured in different ways, so a lower rate doesn’t always mean you’ll end up with a lower bill. For example, depending on your agreement, you might have to pay more for using 999 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity than you would for using 1,000 kWh. Plus, the cost of electricity changes daily, so providers are always switching back and forth on the lowest sticker price.

Atlas was built to help you navigate this complex system, changing prices included. Rather than just showing you the cheapest electricity rates available right now, we consider the bigger picture to find plans that benefit you all year long, despite seasonal usage and rate fluctuations. Our algorithm takes into account all of these factors, as well as your typical energy usage habits. We recommend plans that work for you now and in the future, with savings over the entire course of your term.
